Why MODI's new "Air India one" is so special?

The new VVIP's flying machine for Indian Prime Minister, President, and Vice President delivered at IGI Airport on Oct 1st, 2020 after 15 hours of journey from Fort Worth in the US. It was actually scheduled to deliver in July 2020, the present pandemic crisis became the reason for the delay.



This is a customized B-777 aircraft with a very advanced Defence system including missiles, jamming mechanisms, and technology specially made for the Indian VVIP's traveling. On officials note the estimated cost of purchase and retrofitting the two planes have been around INR 8,400/- Crores.



The planes have a state of the art missile system called the Large Aircraft Infrared Counter Measures (LAIRCM) and Self Protection Suites (SPS). These defense systems can protect the aircraft man-portable missiles also increases the warning time for the onboard crew. It can also automatically operate countermeasures to protect itself from any advanced mediate range missiles. All these new defense systems are fitted at a Boeing facility in San Antonio, Texas. This reminds the US had approved the purchase of two defense systems known as LAIRCM and SPS for an estimated cost of $190 Million USD.



It also has an advanced communication system that allows for mid-air audio and video communication. It is completely secured and cannot be hacked or tapped.



The two GE90-115 engines can release enough thrust for the new Air India One to travel with a speed of 900Kmph. It has the potential to hold in the mid-air for 17 hours without refueling. The aircraft amassed a VVIP suite, two conference rooms, one press briefing room, one patient transfer unit, secured video telephony, and a soundproofing system. The rear seats are economy class category seats and the rest of the seats are the business class category seats

This aircraft will be registered under the military aircraft which gets a K-series registration number. "In terms of Livery, the aircraft dons the national emblem and the name 'India' and 'Bharat' written in both Hindi and English on either side of the aircraft, while the national flag is present on the tail wing" IANS reported.



Previously it used to be a B-747 aircraft which is an Air India aircraft for VVIP traveling, It was controlled by Air India pilots and crew to ferry P.M. Now, This jumbo aircraft was replaced with a new Customized B-777, and like before it will not be under the control of Air India pilots. The India Air Force (IAF) is taking this responsibility to control, Handle, and Maintain VVIP's aircraft.

For the moment, there is no confirmation about when the second customized B-777 aircraft will be delivered.
